Our Beginnings
EARLY 1960S
Bob & Carl's Auto Body was started in the early 1960's by two fresh Dunwoody Auto Body graduates, Bob Nelson and Carl Rivers. The original location in Crystal, MN at the intersection of Bass Lake Road and County Road 52 (now County Road 81) served the business well.
MOVE TO OSSEO
1969
Bob & Carl's moved to their current location in 1969, but more than just the location changed. Carl decided to retire from the auto body repair business, and Greg Smith signed on to fill his shoes.
OWNERSHIP CHANGES
1995
The next big change came when Jeff Nelson, Bob's son, became Greg's partner in 1995 after Bob retired.

Greg retires and his son Tony becomes Jeff’s partner.

TODAY
Today Bob & Carl's Auto Body and Glass is owned and operated by Jeff Nelson and Tony Smith. People always ask, "Why is it called Bob and Carl's when you guys are Jeff and Tony?" Looking back at the history and the longevity of the name, we didn't want to change this great business and legacy.
Sam
Sam, one of our newer techs, has over 5 years’ experience in both body repairs and refinishing. His interest and enthusiasm is a welcome addition.
Jerry
Jerry is an ASE Certified paint tech who is highly skilled in all areas of painting and refinishing. With over 40 years experience, he is an important part of our team.
Tom
Tom has been with us for over 30 years as a body tech. He is ASE Certified in both body and frame repairs. A very seasoned and competent tech.
Collin
Collin came aboard in 2015. His work in assembly, body, and paint prep keeps everything moving along smoothly.
Tony
Tony brought 4 years of glass experience, and his ASE Master Glass Technician certificate to Bob & Carl’s in 2001. In addition to handling our glass needs, he is an estimator and partner in the business.
Jeff
Jeff, a partner since 1995, has been with Bob & Carl’s 30 plus years. As Bob’s son, he brings a lifetime of autobody experience and his business degree to the team.
Jake
Jake is the newest addition to the team. He excels at detailing the finished product and working paint prep.
